Fashion with responsibility: fair clothing from Europe
Transparency is becoming ever more important in the fashion industry – and with it, fair clothing and responsible labels are increasingly in the spotlight. Shoppers want to know where their clothes come from, under what conditions they were made and which materials were used. European manufacturers, for example in Portugal, have also made a name for themselves in this context.
Supply-chain transparency: what sets Europe apart
For many brands, ethical aspects such as legally regulated working conditions and minimum wages, as well as proximity to sales markets, speak in favour of producing in Europe. Portugal, for instance, has established itself in recent years as an important location for textile production.
Many fashion labels rely on long-term partnerships with selected producers to make their supply chain traceable. What matters is not only the country of origin, but how openly a brand communicates where and how its clothing is made.
Transparency at ORGANICATION: ORGANICATION is a fashion label of ORGANICATION Europe GmbH, based in Nürtingen, Germany. Our clothing is made in Izmir, Turkey. You can find out which certification an item carries on its product page and on our certificates page.
Lenzing ECOVERO™: viscose with a traceable origin
Material is a key part of any garment. LENZING™ ECOVERO™, a fibre made from wood cellulose, is a well-known example of a viscose fibre with documented origins. According to the manufacturer, its production causes up to 50 % lower emissions and water impact compared with conventional viscose. According to Lenzing, the wood comes from certified or controlled sources (FSC® or PEFC™).
ORGANICATION also uses ECOVERO™ in selected items. Find out more about the fibre on our Lenzing ECOVERO™ page.
Organication B2B: an offer for retailers
With Organication B2B, fashion retailers can add our collections to their range. We use materials such as organic cotton, TENCEL™ Lyocell, recycled fibres and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ – certified to GOTS, OCS, GRS, RCS or RWS depending on the item.
For business customers, this means timeless collections, transparent information on materials and certifications, and open information about where our clothing is made.
Fair fashion in Europe: labels with responsibility
More and more fashion labels are looking not only at design, but also at the choice of materials and working conditions in their supply chain. All across Europe – from Portugal and Germany to Scandinavia – there are brands that rely on traceable supply chains, certified materials and long-term partnerships with their producers.
This development shows: style and a mindful purchasing decision are not mutually exclusive. The key is to look closely – at labels, at information on origin and at how specifically a brand describes its production.
Fair Fashion for mindful shoppers
If you want to buy fair clothing, you will find a growing choice of fair fashion shops and concept stores in many German cities – such as Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich or Stuttgart – that specifically stock brands with certified materials and transparent supply chains. You can find ORGANICATION online and in our own shop in Konstanz.
What to look for when choosing a manufacturer
Whether clothing is made in Europe or elsewhere, the following questions help when assessing a clothing manufacturer:
- Quality: How experienced is the producer, and how durably are the garments made?
- Working conditions: Are there independent audits or certifications with social criteria?
- Transparency: Does the brand openly name its place of production?
- Materials: Are fibres such as organic cotton, TENCEL™ Lyocell or LENZING™ ECOVERO™ certified to a recognised standard?
Fashion with a stance
Above all, fair clothing means transparency, quality and responsibility along the supply chain. Labels such as ORGANICATION are open about where they produce and use certified materials such as organic cotton and LENZING™ ECOVERO™.
Whether you want to shop more mindfully as a consumer or expand your range as a retailer, it pays to look for verifiable labels and transparent manufacturer information.
