ORGANICATION basics in sage green

This page sets out what we actually do, how you can check it, and where we are not yet as far along as we would like to be. If something only applies to some of our products, we say which ones.

In short

  • Our clothes are made at Akçakaya Tekstil in Izmir: cutting, sewing, pressing, packing.
  • Which certification applies to an item, such as GOTS, OCS or RWS, is shown on its product page.
  • The wool we use is RWS-certified and mulesing-free.
  • We don’t use the term “climate neutral”. The reason is explained below.

Planet

Most of a garment’s environmental impact happens before it is even sewn: when the fibre is grown or made, and when the fabric is produced. That is why everything starts with the material for us. We work with fibres whose origin can be documented through independent standards or verifiable manufacturer information.

A label only ever applies to the product it is shown on. You’ll find the exact composition on every product page and an overview of all standards on our Certificates page.

Power from the factory roof

There is a solar installation on the roofs of our production partner in Izmir. In 2024 it generated 388,039 kWh of electricity. That covers part of the sewing factory’s power needs, not all of it. And it only concerns this one step: it does not apply to the yarn and fabrics we buy in.

Packaging

Our shipping boxes are made of FSC®-certified cardboard. The protective bags around each item are made of a material certified as industrially compostable under EN 13432. That means it breaks down in an industrial composting facility. Please don’t put the bags in the food or garden waste bin, though, as many composting plants sort them out. Dispose of them with general waste instead. More on our Packaging page.

Wear it for longer

The simplest lever is in your hands: a T-shirt that lasts five years replaces several that lose their shape after one season. We design and make our basics to keep their shape for a long time. How to wash them properly is covered in our care tips in the Journal.

People

Our clothes are cut, sewn, pressed and packed at Akçakaya Tekstil in Izmir. We don’t just know the factory from reports: we are there regularly and talk to the people who work there.

Akçakaya Tekstil is a certified B Corp.

We buy our fabrics ready-made. Spinning, knitting or weaving, and dyeing are done by other companies. For GOTS-certified items, minimum social requirements are also independently checked at every certified stage, for example the ban on child and forced labour and rules on health and safety.

What we don’t promise

We cannot currently guarantee a living wage at every stage of the supply chain, because we don’t control every stage ourselves. Our Code of Conduct says the same. If you’d like to see evidence for a specific product, write to us at info@organication.de.

Animals

Most of our pieces are made from plant or cellulose fibres or from recycled fibres. The exception is wool: we use merino and lambswool for some knitwear.

This wool is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). The RWS audits farms on how the sheep are kept and how the land is managed. Mulesing is not allowed. The wool is tracked through the entire supply chain to the finished garment.

Products we label as vegan contain no materials of animal origin. Items containing wool never carry this label.

Why you won’t read “climate neutral” here

Many shops advertise climate-neutral shipping or climate-neutral products. Usually this means offsetting through climate projects: the emissions still happen, they are just balanced out on paper. The EU no longer allows these claims, and we found them misleading even before that.

We would rather write down what can be checked. When we have new figures, we will add them here.

FAQ

Where are your clothes made?

They are sewn at Akçakaya Tekstil in Izmir, Turkey. The country of manufacture is also shown on every product page.

Are all your products GOTS-certified?

No. Which certification applies to an item is shown on its product page. If none is listed, the product is not certified.

Can I see the certificates?

Yes. Email info@organication.de with the item and we’ll send you the relevant documents.

Are your products vegan?

Many are, but not all. Items with merino or lambswool are not vegan. Products without animal materials are labelled as vegan.
